Piers Taylor’s site specific bike shelter was designed as an educational vehicle in collaboration with Colerne Primary School.
A number of schemes were developed by the architects and students in a series of participatory workshops and after a school-wide vote this design was chosen.
The hyperbolic parabaloid shape was generated by the desire to create a self shading structure to protect bikes and students from the sun and driving rain.
The structure was funded entirely through a green travel grant. All the timber used was donated by a local land owner and of course there are no C02 emissions.
