Ganadores 12º Concurso Internacional ARQUINE 2010: ARCA. Observatorio de Inundaciones.
El pasado mes de marzo, y en el marco del XI Congreso Internacional Arquine se llevó a cabo la premiación del 12° Concurso Internacional Arquine: ARCA Observatorio de las Inundaciones. Para esta edición se recibieron 152 proyectos tanto de equipos nacionales como internacionales.
El jurado integrado por el Gobernador del Estado de Tabasco, Andrés Granier Melo, la Subsecretaria de Desarrollo Urbano y Ordenación Territorial de SEDESOL, Sara Topelson de Grinberg, el arquitecto chileno Germán del Sol, el diseñador industrial, Emiliano Godoy y el arquitecto Mauricio Rocha, se reunió el 6 de marzo en la Casa-estudio Luis Barragán, para seleccionar los 3 primeros lugares y la mención honorifica.
A continuación los resultados:
Primer lugar, ganador de $100,000 pesos. (Equipo 435): Rubén Segovia (Nuevo León), Liliana Lutteroth (Tijuana, B.C.), Sofía Arévalo (Poza Rica, Veracruz), Ignacio Alvear (San Pedro, Nuevo León), Arturo Acosta (Chihuahua), Laura González (Monterrey, Nuevo León).
Segundo lugar, ganador de $60,000 pesos (Equipo 559): Federico Díaz de León Orraca, Gabriel Beas Díaz, Saúl Joaquín Figueroa Orendain (Zapopan, Jalisco, México).
Tercer lugar, ganador de $30,000 pesos (Equipo 530): Juan David Botero, Carla Cristina Gil Arboleda, Víctor Rodríguez Agudelo, María Fernanda Vasco Ochoa (Medellín-Colombia).
Mención (Equipo 486): Ulises Omar Zúñiga García (México D.F.), María Graciela López González (Tampico, Tamaulipas), Gabriel De La Torre Mejía (México D.F.), Hanni Berenice Paz Herrera (México D.F.), Fhilipp Navarro García (México D.F.), Edgar Cazares Bañuelos (Mexicali, Baja California).

Un equipo radicado en la Argentina, del cual quien escribe fue parte tambien tuvo una participacion. El equipo estuvo conformado por los arquitectos Monica Dazzini, Magalena Eggers, y Mauricio Maturana Muller, ademas, por los estudiantes de la Licenciatura de Diseño del Paisaje de la FADU-UBA, Graciela Spelzini, Alejandra Yamasato, Andres Liguori, Ailen Perez Avila, y Mercedes Triaca.
En proximas entregas, se daran a conocer imagenes de los equipos galardonados, asi como tambien del equipo del que forme parte.
ARBOL DE LA SEMANA
Deloxin regia (Bojer) Raf
Familia: Caesalpiniaceae (Leguminosae)
Sinónimos: Poinciana regia Bojer
Nombre común: Flamboyant
Lugar de origen: Nativo de Madagascar y hoy día cultivado en los trópicos y subtrópicos de todo el mundo.
Etimología: Delonix, del griego delos, evidente, notable y onus, uña, refiriéndose a los pétalos notablemente unguiculados. Regia, del latín regium-a-um, real, por su grandiosidad cuando está en flor.
Descripción: Árbol caducifolio de 6-8 m de altura, con la copa notablemente aparasolada y el tronco algo torcido con la corteza gris, algo áspera. Hojas bipinnadas de 20-40 cm de longitud, con 10-15 pares de pinnas, cada una de las cuales tiene 12-20 pares de folíolos oblongos, de ápice y base redondeada, sésiles, ligeramente tomentosos, de color verde, con el envés más claro. Las flores, que son de color rojo, aparecen cuando el árbol carece de hojas, y se disponen en racimos laterales. Cada flor mide 10-12 cm de diámetro y tienen el cáliz con 5 sépalos hirsutos, la corola con 5 pétalos desiguales y el androceo con 10 estambres largos, delgados, de color rojo. Legumbre muy coriácea, de 40-50 cm de longitud, plana, de color castaño en la madurez. Los frutos permanecen colgando en el árbol durante todo un año.
Datos de cultivo: Es árbol de sistema radicular agresivo, por lo que debe tener suficiente espacio para expander sus raíces. Muy sensible al frío, por lo que sólo puede cultivarse en Canarias y en algún punto de la costa malagueña, y aún así, necesita mucho sol y temperaturas muy suaves para florecer abundantemente. Se multiplica por semillas, que deben someterse a tratamientos de presiembra para ablandar las cubiertas. Cuando está en floración es espectacular. Se utiliza como ejemplar aislado, formando grupos o en alineaciones de calles.

Workshop: Cómo transformar la ciudad. Encuentro Medellin - Buenos Aires.
La Facultad de Arquitectura de la Universidad de Palermo invita a participar de este Workshop a realizarse del 26 de abril al 3 de mayo, en la sede Jean Jaurés 932. El taller será coordinado por el Arq. Gustavo Dieguez, Profesor de Urbanismo en la UP y los arquitectos colombianos Natalia Castaño y Juan Sebastian Bustamante de Medellín, Colombia.
El objetivo de los talleres consiste en generar un encuentro para intercambiar y reflexionar sobre la experiencia y transformación llevada a cabo en la ciudad de Medellín, bajo un modelo de intervención denominado ‘Urbanismo Social’, que comprende simultáneamente la transformación física, la intervención social, la gestión institucional y la participación comunitaria, el cual motive un proceso futuro de transformación para el sector de Abasto en la ciudad de Buenos Aires.
Serán dos semanas intensivas que contará con una visita por la zona del Abasto y tres seminarios interdisciplinarios y abiertos al público.
El workshop está dirigido a estudiantes del último año de la carrera en arquitectura, egresados de arquitectura, ingeniería, arte, sociología, antropología, economía, ecología, entre otras carreras afines al desarrollo urbano.

Resilient Cities 2010. 1st World Congress on Cities and Adaptation to Climate Change.

The Congress
ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, the City of Bonn and the World Mayors Council on Climate Change will jointly host Resilient Cities 2010, the first edition of the annual global forum on urban resiliency and adaptation to climate change.
The Congress will be held on 28-30 May 2010 in Bonn, Germany, between the Carbon Expo in Cologne (26-28 May) and the UN Climate Talks in Bonn (31 May – 11 June 2010).
Resilient Cities 2010 will be a prime opportunity to share the latest scientific findings, state-of-the-art approaches and effective programs on climate change adaptation and resilience-building in cities and urbanized areas.
ICLEI is the first Local Government network to support the UNFCCC Nairobi Work Programme on Adaptation. The Resilient Cities Congress series represents ICLEI Action Pledge towards the objectives and expected outcomes of the Nairobi Work Programme.
ICLEI has formed a partnership with leading organizations to provide a global platform for sharing knowledge and experiences on a variety of themes.
Case examples of local adaptation practice will illustrate approaches and experiences.
Resilient Cities 2010 will enhance exchange, learning, networking, debate and policy development on approaches and solutions to climate change adaptation for cities and local governments.
It also aims at setting the direction for future planning of and investment in urban infrastructure. The event will bring about policy propositions and impulses for innovation.

REGARDING LANDSCAPES.
Main workshop themes .
Observation of the Plant world within the Landscape. Here we will explore the more ecological aspects of landscape. The main question will be; What do plants tell us - about themselves, about their environment and about us?
Sense Perceptional Qualities & Interpretation (Environmental Aesthetics). Here we explore at how we see things and make judgements. The main question will be; How do we experience landscape and why can we experience it as beautiful?
Nature and Culture within the Landscape. Here we will explore cultural influences within the landscape. The main question will be; Are our surroundings natural with our cultural products placed within and how far is the landscape a product of nature and/or culture? And what are we?
Evolution of Consciousness. Here we will explore our changing perceptions of landscape within history and our own biography. The main questions will be; Is what we observe dependent on our consciousness? How far and why do we all notice different elements in the landscape?
Workshops 2010
All workshops will contain all 4 main themes. But each workshop will dominated by one of the them. There is also one separate course for Painting within the landscape.
Spring Workshop (1 - 8 May) will focus on Observation of the Plantworld within the landscape. Joining us on this workshop will be Jan Diek van Mansvelt, a botanic and landscape phenomenologist.
1st Summer Workshop (10 - 17 July) will focus on Sense-Perceptional Qualities & Interpretation (Environmental Aesthetics) within the landscape.
2nd Summer Holiday Workshop (7 - 14 August) will focus on exploring the relation between Nature and Culture, specifically in relation to the Middle Ages and the Present within the landscape.
Landscape Painting Workshop (28 Aug - 4 Sept) Here you will have the opportunity to acquire or enhance your skills in landscape painting with the support of Ben Stolk, a professional art teacher. No experience required.
Autumn Workshop (23 - 30 Oct) will focus on the Evolution of Consciousness and our changing Perceptions of the landscape. Joining us on this workshop will be Simon Blaxland de Lange, who will guide us through a small work by Owen Barfield.

Etimología: Tanto Tipuana como tipu provienen de sus nombres populares indígenas.
Descripción: Árbol semicaducifolio, corpulento, de 10-15 m de altura, con la copa amplia, algo aparasolada y el tronco grueso con la corteza oscura, fisurada. Ramas nuevas colgantes. Hojas imparipinnadas, de 10-20 cm de longitud. Poseen 11-29 folíolos oblongos de 4-7 cm de longitud, de color verde-amarillento, con el ápice emarginado. Inflorescencias en racimos axilares y terminales de 5-11 cm de longitud, con flores de color amarillo-naranja de unos 2 cm de diámetro. Florece de Junio a Agosto. Fruto en sámara de unos 4-7 cm de longitud, indehiscente, conteniendo 1-3 semillas rojizas.
Cultivo y usos: Se multiplica por semillas sin dificultad. Árbol resistente, de rápido crecimiento y que admite bastante bien la poda. Es buena especie para sombra. Hay que formarle la cruz bastante alta para evitar que sus largas ramas cuelguen hasta el suelo. Mediante la poda inicial de formación podemos abrir o cerrar la copa, no obstante, para un buen desarrollo del árbol necesita suficiente espacio. Sus raíces son agresivas, por lo que no se aconseja su plantación cerca de edificaciones.

2010 ILASA Conference
Having considered many logistical issues, including the number of delegates that can be accommodated, exhibition space available and the cash-flow of the institute in terms of deposits needed to secure the venue, ILASA has decided to change the dates of its 2010 conference. The event will now take place on Thursday and Friday May 13 – 14 2010 at the Wanderers Club in Johannesburg (and no longer on May 6 – 7).
Delegate registrations for the 2010 conference are now open. An exciting programme with a theme of “landscape architecture... adding value” will focus on four sub-themes:
- Green building within the context of green cities
- Regenerative landscapes – brownfields development, reclamation and rehabilitation
- The role of landscape architecture in public precincts, squares and parks to facilitate densification and social cohesion
- Urban greening and ecological systems within cities.

We shape the landscape and find ourselves doing so with increasingly far-reaching and possibly irrevocable consequences. We seek to control the landscape through legislation, economic imperatives and other tools, yet how effective are those tools and to what extent are people able to influence what happens to the places they feel strongly about?
‘Landscape10: The Power of Landscape’ is the focus of the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects 2010 Conference being held in Wellington between 15-17 April. Speakers will explore the inherent tension between the extraordinary power that landscape exerts on us and our increasing ability to change and to reshape it at every scale.
The conference is aimed at stimulating fresh thinking in dealing with contentious landscape issues.
Expressing the tensions
Tensions frequently flare over landscape issues throughout New Zealand. What are the perspectives and experiences in dealing with those tensions for people in affected communities, for developers and for the design, planning and other professions?
Furthermore, expectations and demands on our landscapes are changing as people, communities and government respond to environmental and economic pressures. What new kind of landscapes are being advocated and what are the implications for debate and controversy?
Finding our limits
The landscape contributes to human well-being in numerous ways, but there are limits. Finding those limits and working within them is a matter of increasing urgency - whether addressing the effects of climate change, demands on water resources, questions of cumulative landscape change or trends towards urban intensification. To what extent are the limits being imposed by natural processes in the landscape and to what extent are they the coming from communities as they voice their feelings and concerns about landscape change and a loss of inherent character and quality?
Towards resolutions
Empowering people to participate and be heard is proving increasingly effective in resolving landscape issues and assisting factions to find common ground. Social scientists are increasingly involved, and innovative approaches to participation in both planning and design processes are being put into action. There is a need to ensure that the companies and organisations who seek to introduce or impose development on our landscape realise the benefits of finding suitable resolutions and not rely on, or resort to, adversarial methods. What are the ways and means to achieve this? How successful are they? What are the alternatives?

Dighe trasformano intere vallate in sterminati laghi artificiali, viadotti attraversano luci impensabili ad altezze vertiginose, tracciati di gasdotti ridisegnano nuove geografie, campi eolici offshore nuovi pezzi di costa: la performance delle tecnologie non riesce più a stupirci, ma la loro presenza risulta sempre più estranea ed invasiva rispetto al nostro modo di percepire il paesaggio. Cosa impedisce di considerare i grandi lavori, un ponte, un traliccio, uno svincolo autostradale, monumenti al pari delle grandi opere del passato come gli acquedotti romani? Sono sufficienti gli strumenti normativi per evitare che tali oggetti ingombranti siano solo il risultato di esigenze tecniche necessarie ad uniformare il territorio ad un processo di uno sviluppo indefinito e ormai fuori controllo? Numerose esperienze in Europa hanno ormai dimostrato, attraverso studi ambientali e tecnologici, come sia superabile il conflitto tra infrastruttura e paesaggio elevando entrambi ad un livello di consapevolezza progettuale in grado di integrarne, arricchendo invece di ridurre, le qualità.

La historia de Latinoamérica está marcada por la figura del viajero, una mezcla de artista y científico que catalogó el territorio y clasificó la flora y la fauna a partir de la segunda mitad del Siglo XVIII y durante el Siglo XIX. El discurso objetivo de la ciencia encubría frecuentemente motivaciones políticas e ideológicas sobre los recursos naturales del continente, preparando el camino para su violenta explotación.
Hoy esta figura -la del viajero- ha sido repensada críticamente por muchos artistas, conscientes de las problemáticas de la mirada extranjera sobre nuestro continente y buscando desde la distancia irónica hasta la naturalización de lo “exótico”, abordar las consecuencias del paso del hombre sobre la naturaleza.
El presente curso busca reflexionar las tensiones entre lo natural y su elaboración cultural y las miradas que los artistas del Siglo XX y XXI han realizado sobre el legado de los viajeros del pasado.
• Los viajeros del Siglo XVIII y XIX en Latinoamérica. Su legado en el Siglo XX
• El género de paisaje en relación al desarrollo topográfico. La relación del paisaje en la identidad nacional. México: José María Velasco (1840-1912). Argentina: el Grupo Nexus. Uruguay: la naturaleza idílica de Pedro Figari (1861-1938).
• Las frutas ricas del continente. Pintura de alacenas y cocinas poblanas mexicanas: José Agustín Arrieta (1802-1874), Hermenegildo Bustos (1832-1907). La herencia de estos artistas sobre Frida Kahlo (1907-1954), Olga Costa (1913-1993), María Izquierdo (1902-1955) y Elena Climent (1955).
• El Caribe en flores, frutas y paisaje: Francisco Oller (Puerto Rico 1833-1917), Amelia Peláez (Cuba, 1897-1968) y Ana Mercedes Hoyos (Colombia 1942).

Landscapes of Quarantine features new works by a multi-disciplinary group of eighteen artists, designers, and architects, each of whom was inspired by one or more of the physical, biological, ethical, architectural, social, political, temporal, and even astronomical dimensions of quarantine.
At its most basic, quarantine is a strategy of separation and containment—the creation of a hygienic boundary between two or more things, for the purpose of protecting one from exposure to the other. It is a spatial response to suspicion, threat, and uncertainty. From Chernobyl’s Zone of Exclusion and the artificial quarantine islands of the New York archipelago to camp beds set up to house HIV-positive Haitian refugees detained at Guantánamo and the modified Airstream trailer from within which Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong, and Michael Collins once waved at President Nixon, the landscapes of quarantine are various, mutable, and often unexpected.
Typically, quarantine is thought of in the context of disease control. It is used to isolate people who have been exposed to a contagious virus or bacteria and, as a result, may (or may not) be carrying the infection themselves. But quarantine does not apply only to people and animals. Its boundaries can be set up for as long as needed, creating spatial separation between clean and dirty, safe and dangerous, healthy and sick, foreign and native—however those labels are defined.
As a result, the practice of quarantine extends far beyond questions of epidemic control and pest-containment strategies to touch on issues of urban planning, geopolitics, international trade, ethics, immigration, and more. And although the practice dates back at least to the arrival of the Black Death in medieval Venice, if not to Christ’s 40 days in the desert, quarantine has re-emerged as an issue of urgency and importance in today’s era of globalization, antibiotic resistance, emerging diseases, pandemic flu, and bio-terrorism.
Landscapes of Quarantine began with an eight-week independent design studio directed by Geoff Manaugh and Nicola Twilley of Future Plural. Each Tuesday evening, from October to December 2009, a multi-disciplinary group of studio participants met to discuss the spatial implications of quarantine and develop their own creative response: the resulting work forms the core of the Landscapes of Quarantine exhibition.

ARBOL DE LA SEMANA
Phoenix canariensis.
Familia: Arecaceae (Palmae)
Nombre común: Palmera canaria.
Lugar de origen: Islas Canarias.
Etimología: Phoenix = el nombre griego de la palmera datilera. Canariensis, del latín canariensis-e = procedente de las Islas Canarias.
Descripción: Palmera dioica de tronco único, grueso, derecho, de 20 m. de altura y hasta 80-90 cm. de diámetro, cubierto de las restos de las bases de las hojas. Hojas pinnadas, formando una corona muy frondosa. Miden 5-6 m. de longitud, con 150-200 pares de folíolos apretados, de color verde claro. Los folíolos inferiores están transformados en fuertes espinas. Inflorescencia muy ramificada naciendo entre las hojas, con flores de color crema. Frutos globoso-ovoides, de color naranja, de unos 2 cm. de longitud.
Cultivo y usos: Se multiplica por semillas, que germinan en unos 4 meses. Palmera bastante rústica y resistente, que tolera suelos diversos e incluso la cercanía al mar. Se utiliza aislada o en alineaciones. En Canarias se obtiene la miel de palma.

“ENTRE EL ESTADO Y EL MERCADO. Gobernanza y Acceso a la Vivienda en Cuatro Metrópolis de América Latina”
Este seminario se plantea la cuestión la gobernanza para analizar las políticas de acceso al suelo y la vivienda de los sectores populares y medios en cuatro metrópolis de América Latina, desde una perspectiva comparada. En este marco se presentarán avances de investigación y distintas experiencias en materia de producción del hábitat conforme a cuatro ejes:
- Derecho a la vivienda, derecho a la ciudad y políticas públicas.
- Producción de espacio residencial. Entre el mercado y el Estado: un entrevero de actores y de políticas.
- La lucha por los lugares, “savoir-faire” (competencias técnicas) y repertorios de la acción colectiva.
- Formas urbanas, estrategias residenciales y modos de habitar: viviendas en torre, grandes conjuntos habitacionales, rehabilitación edilicia, barrios, favelas, villas, asentamientos.

The past thirty years have witnessed social, geopolitical, technological and economic change on a global scale. Along side these shifts, landscape has also changed its nature. Focusing primarily, but not exclusivly, on the sinergies bewtween the disciplines of photography, this international and interdisciplinary conference will examine and critically reassess the intefrcafe between production and representation in the creation of contemporary landscape.
Emerging Landscapes asks practitioners, writers, crtitics, artists, and others working in the broad fields of the built environment (i.e. architecture, landscape architecure, and urban design) and the represented environment (i.e. photography, film, and the visual arts) to reconsider the idea of landscape by interrogating the relationship between space and image; to explore the synergies that exists between landscape representation - the imaginary and symbolic shaping of the human environment - and landscape production - the physical and material changes wrought on the land.

The past thirty years have witnessed social, geopolitical, technological and economic change on a global scale. Along side these shifts, landscape has also changed its nature. Focusing primarily, but not exclusivly, on the sinergies bewtween the disciplines of photography, this international and interdisciplinary conference will examine and critically reassess the intefrcafe between production and representation in the creation of contemporary landscape.Emerging Landscapes asks practitioners, writers, crtitics, artists, and others working in the broad fields of the built environment (i.e. architecture, landscape architecure, and urban design) and the represented environment (i.e. photography, film, and the visual arts) to reconsider the idea of landscape by interrogating the relationship between space and image; to explore the synergies that exists between landscape representation - the imaginary and symbolic shaping of the human environment - and landscape production - the physical and material changes wrought on the land.

El CENTRO DE ARTE Y NATURALEZA de Huesca realizará el quinto y último curso de una serie dedicada monográficamente a “el paisaje”
En esta edición, la quinta, nos vamos a dedicar a estudiar las relaciones del paisaje con el patrimonio, es decir, se van a plantear temas relacionados con la interpretación patrimonial del paisaje, los criterios de conservación y las posibilidades de evolución, intentando hacer coincidir en Huesca a representantes de las diferentes tendencias que en materia patrimonial y paisajística se están desarrollando en la actualidad.

Gingko biloba
Familia: Ginkgoaceae
Sinónimos: Salisburia adiantifolia Smith.
Nombre común: Ginko, Arbol de los cuarenta escudos.
Lugar de origen: China.
Etimología: Gingko proviene de su nombre nativo yinkuo. Biloba se refiere a los dos lóbulos de la hoja.
Descripción: Árbol caducifolio de ramificación abierta, con la copa piramidal en los ejemplares masculinos y más horizontal en los femeninos, que puede alcanzar más de 30 m de altura. Corteza bastante suberosa de color gris, fisurada. Hojas simples, de color verde claro, tornándose amarillas en el otoño. Tienen forma de abanico, con dos lóbulos que la dividen. Miden 5-10 cm de longitud, y están largamente pecioladas; su nerviación es paralela. Se disponen de forma alterna o dispuestas en racimos de 3-5 hojas. Flores dioicas, en pies diferentes. Las masculinas amarillentas, reunidas en amentos. Las femeninas solitarias. Fruto en drupa, redondo o elipsoide, de unos 2-3 cm de diámetro, amarillento, con la pulpa comestible. Contiene 1-2 semillas.
Cultivo y usos: Se multiplica por semillas. Admite variedades de climas. Le van mejor los suelos bien drenados y frescos. Se utiliza en grupos o como ejemplar aislado. Este árbol está considerado un fósil viviente pues el único representante vivo de un antiguo orden de gimnospermas ya extinguidas. Muy raro en estado silvestre.

Pretende ser el lugar de encuentro de todos los socios e interesados en la Arboricultura, con el fin de formarse e informarse en las nuevas técnicas arboricultoras.

1er Seminario Taller de Arquitectura de Paisaje. Ecuador
La UTPL, a través de la carrera de Arquitectura, y la SAPE (Sociedad de Arquitectos Paisajistas del Ecuador), organizan el Primer Seminario Taller Internacional de Arquitectura de Paisaje, cuyo tema central es: “Arquitectura de Paisaje en el Contexto Global”, a realizarse los dias 7 y 8 de abril, en el Centro de Convenciones de la Universidad, en Loja.
Se contará con la presencia de valiosos expositores tanto nacionales, como internacionales como:
· Dra. Diane Menzis (Nueva Zelanda), Presidenta Mundial de International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA).
· Dra. Virginia Laboranti, Secretaria mundial de la IFLA y Presidenta del Centro Argentino de Arquitectos Pisajistas CAAP
· Dra. Gloria Apone García, Vicepresidenta del Comité de Educacion del paisaje en América Latina, ante la IFLA.
· Arq. Cecilia Von Buchwald de Jurado (Ecuador), Proyecto Malecón 2000.
Además estarán presentes paisajistas ecuatorianos que mostrarán sus proyectos y los avances que la disciplina del paisaje ha tenido en el Ecuador.
Este encuentro permitirá crear las bases para futuros enventos dentro del ámbito del paisaje, vinculados al desarrollo de nuestro país.
Este seminario se encuentra dirigido a estudiantes y profesionales de la rama.
