Placemaking: Making It Happen // Project for Public Spaces

Placemaking: Making It Happen is a new two-day training course focused on how to move ideas into reality by using a place-based management and implementation strategy. Joining PPS in teaching the course are individuals who have direct, hands-on experience in applying a placemaking approach to their work. Also included are narrated site visits to a few of the best managed spaces in New York City and numerous opportunities for networking.

Creating great public spaces that relate to the community and user depends on an effective implementation strategy, including how those spaces will be managed. In the end, good management is why a public space succeeds or fails and why people come to it or why they stay away. This training course will describe the roles that different types of public space management organizations play, complemented by lessons learned from experts with hands on experience implementing improvements and managing public spaces. Also included are narrated site visits to a few of the best managed spaces in New York City and numerous opportunities for networking, including an optional welcome reception the evening of November 2.

Streets as Places // Project for Public Spaces

Streets as Places will introduce participants to new ways of thinking about streets as public spaces and how Placemaking can be used to build great streets and great communities. It is intended for anyone who is interested in creating a great street, including transportation professionals, civic and elected officials, main street managers, and citizen activists. Specific topics will include transportation and land use, community engagement, street design flexibility, transit and station planning, and how to activate street edges.

An extension of the 200-acre desert retreat of publisher, diplomat and philanthropist Walter Annenberg, the Sunnylands Center and Gardens is an interpretive center that celebrates the architectural and cultural legacy of the historic estate. Inspired by the Annenberg’s extensive collection of impressionist artwork, the landscape architect painted a living landscape that respects the character of the Sonoran Desert and demonstrates a new ecological aesthetic for landscapes in the arid southwest.

El concurso busca impulsar la rehabilitación integral y renovación urbana del eje Jirón Ancash, a través del tratamiento y rehabilitación de 5 espacios públicos ubicados en su recorrido.

La intervención estará contribuyendo a entender el Centro Histórico de Lima como un espacio vivo, que puede ser re interpretado, enriquecido y renovado, conservando su memoria histórica y valor patrimonial.

Arquitecnica te invita a participar en el concurso de ideas para MARACAIBO transversal. En esta oportunidad te proponemos aportar ideas gráficas conceptuales sobre el siguiente tema:

PUERTAS DE MARACAIBO: PROYECTA UNA IDEA.

Bajo la premisa de definir una identidad arquitectónica y urbana de Maracaibo, hemos establecido el criterio de intervenir las principales formas de acceso a la ciudad identificándolas con un elemento de escala monumental. Las locaciones son:

Puerta NORTE: Parque las Peonías.
Puerta OESTE: Aeropuerto.
Puerta ESTE: Cabecera del Puente Rafael Urdaneta.
Puerta CENTRO: Malecón como muelle – puerto de cruceros.

Las ideas serán analizadas por un jurado calificador y se seleccionará un proyecto por cada opción de diseño, las cuales serán difundidas (con su correspondiente autoría) en este blog, en la página web de Arquitecnica y en un LIBRO que será publicado a final de este año.

El ganador o ganadores recibirán, aparte de la difusión de su idea, un ejemplar del libro y una invitación especial al foro de presentación de Maracaibo Transversal, de lo real a lo imaginado.

West 8 Winner of Freiham Nord Urban and Landscape Planning Competition, Munich.

On 21 September 2011, the Department of Urban Planning and Construction announced that West 8 has won the competition of urban and landscape planning for the first phase of Freiham North.

Freiham Nord will be the last substantial development to take place in Munich and will accommodate about 10.000 inhabitants. In the Masterplan, Freiham Nord has been divided into several project areas with different programming, each about 40 ha in size. The design competition in which 24 offices participated, was organized by the city of Munich and concerned the first two development areas.

Mayor Of Munich, Christian Ude comments that the West 8 winning design "promises a pleasing vibrancy and diversity of the plots."

The design work undertaken by ASPECT Studios on stage one of the revitalisation of Jack Evans Boat Harbour is now complete and the new recreational and aquatic playground is open to the public. The upgrade to the Jack Evans Boat Harbour enriches the existing park experience to become a unique civic place of waterfront leisure. The design strongly promotes physical activity by providing a range of public domain elements such as extensive walkways and cycle-ways. Steps, ramps for those with physical challenges, and unique water front conditions allow access to the water’s edge for swimming and boating. At 4.3 hectares, the parklands cater for a range of other uses enabled by the promenade including meeting places, weekend markets, memorials, children’s play spaces and generous green banks for relaxation.

‘Fierljep’ Polder and Information Centre / Bureau B+B.

The city of Jinzhou is located 430 kilometers north of Beijing in the province of Liaoning and lies 20 kilometers inland. The Jinzhou Longqiwan New Area is an urban development on the coast of the Bonzai Sea. Part of this development is a park, for which Bureau B+B is building a ‘fierljep’ polder and an information centre. This polder-garden will open during the Jinzhou World Landscape Art Exposition in 2013.

KRob 2011: The 37th Annual Ken Roberts Memorial Delineation Competition.

THE 37th ANNUAL KEN ROBERTS MEMORIAL DELINEATION COMPETITION

The Ken Roberts is the most senior architectural drawing competition currently in operation anywhere in the world. In the late 1920's, The Architectural League of New York established the first American competition for architectural drawings. It was named after Birch Long, one of their greatly talented and much-loved members who died while working on their 1927 exhibition. The "Birch Burdette Long Memorial Prize" was awarded annually until 1972, when it was discontinued for lack of interest in architectural illustration. It seems a remarkable coincidence, indeed that a new annual event in far-away Texas was initiated the following year by the Dallas Chapter of the AIA, and was subsequently named for the untimely death of a respected colleague.

This event preceded by two years the 1975 founding of the British Society of Architecture Illustrators (SAI), the first of several national organizations to follow. In 1980 the Japanese Architectural Renderers Association (JARA) was initiated, followed by the 1986 founding of The American Society of Architectural Perspectivists (ASAP) in Boston by Frank Constantino, Steve Rich and myself.

The NYSR in New York and the short-lived New Jersey Association were formed soon after ASAP. After the Koreans founded KAPA in 1990, the Australians became the "newest kid on the block" with their AAAI, which was organized [in 1995]. All this makes the Ken Roberts the most senior architectural drawing competition currently in operation anywhere in the world. - (article researched and written by Paul Stevenson Oles, FAIA) General Eligibility All entries must be of an architectural nature, and must be authored by one individual.

Entries can be elevations, sections, or perspectives, and can be conceptual or final renderings. Exploration and innovation in unique techniques are encouraged. While there is no limit to the number of entries one can submit, submissions awarded in past Ken Roberts competitions are not eligible. Sketchbooks as a whole will not be accepted; a single, clearly marked page within the sketchbook may be entered.

Professional Eligibility. Each entry must have been executed while entrant is a professional in architecture or in related fields (architectural illustrator, educator, engineer, cg animation). Due to the versatile nature of the architectural profession, it is not required for the entrant to be employed at the time submitting work for KRob. All work completed after graduation from a design program is considered professional.

Student Eligibility. This category is open to individuals currently attending high school or pursuing a degree in architecture or design in the United States. It is also open to professionals who wish to submit work that was completed as a student at a design school before graduation. The work should Ihave been realized exclusively in an academic setting, and cannot be altered after graduation from the design program.

Landscape and Critical Agency: Call for Papers

As far back as the 10th century the term ‘landscape’ referred to the ‘collective aspects of the environment’, as J.B. Jackson argues in Discovering the Vernacular Landscape (1984). But rather than the scenographic art it later became, landscape design was initially concerned with the production and organisation of agriculture, housing and infrastructure within its surrounding terrain. Today, whilst the ‘collective’ man-made terrain of the 21st century also encompasses the globalised movements of finance, media and digital technology, our most urgent questions still concern how physical landscapes are produced and organised. As Christian Parenti and others observe, the present environmental and financial crises have escalated conditions of inequality, pollution, scarcity, and precariousness throughout the globe.

Seeking to explore the relevance of contemporary thinking about landscape to such issues, this symposium asks the question:

What agency does landscape possess, as a means of territorial organisation and creative production, to engage critically with the conditions that define the collective aspects of our environment?

There is a growing body of literature, to which Parenti’s Tropic of Chaos (2011) is only the most recent addition, concerned with the critical analysis of territorial transformation and the models through which its complexity might be understood. Within this literature can be cited the radical geography of David Harvey’s Justice, Nature and the Geography of Difference and Spaces of Global Capitalism (1997); the urban political ecology of Nik Heynen et al’s In the Nature of Cities (2006); the model of ‘social nature’ elaborated by Bruce Braun and Noel Castree in their Remaking Reality (1998); Stephen Graham and Simon Marvin’s incisive analysis of the social and political significance of infrastructural development in Splintering Urbanism (2011); and Mike Davis’s unflinching documentation of the global phenomenon of informal settlement in Planet of Slums (2007).

Yet instead of attempting to grasp the significance of these radical perspectives, contemporary landscape design seems largely content to gloss over its practice with a discourse about environmentalism and sustainability, whilst remaining within the scenographic approach through which it has served power elites for the past few centuries. The most celebrated recent landscape productions — Olympic Park in east London, Manhattan’s High Line, or the cosmological gardens of Charles Jencks, for example — attest to this fact. Rather than seeking to locate its own critical agency, landscape design continues to serve the idea of exerting ‘dominion’ over land.

Polymorphic: A Kinetic Installation

Polymorphic is a fascinating kinetic installation designed and produced by ten architecture students from Columbia University GSAPP in New York City. The installation was created within Fast Pace/Slow Space, a course taught by Brigette Borders and Mark Bearak. The team included Charlie Able, Alexis Burson, Ivy Chan, Jennifer Chang, Aaron Harris, Trevor Hollyn Taub, Brian Lee, Eliza Montgomery, Vernon Roether, and David Zhai.

CONCURSO INNATUR: Centro de Interpretación de la Naturaleza

OPENGAP convoca este concurso de ideas abierto buscando propuestas innovadoras que apuesten por una estrategia contemporánea y vanguardista de implantación de arquitectura en un entorno natural protegido; planteamientos que provoquen sinergias entre el contexto natural y el edificio mismo. Se invita a los participantes a encontrar espacios que promuevan una profunda comprensión y asimilación de la naturaleza, induciendo a través de la arquitectura, sensibilidad, conciencia, entendimiento, entusiasmo y compromiso hacia el paisaje que les rodea. Cada concursante o equipo definirá el entorno natural en donde ubicará su proyecto, justificando en la propuesta la elección del lugar de implantación y la forma en que el proyecto interactúa con el mismo. El concurso esta dirigido a todos los arquitectos, profesionales del diseño, estudiantes de arquitectura y personas interesadas de cualquier parte del mundo. Observation Tower / UNStudio + ABT + BAM Utiliteitsbouw + Haitsma Beton

This past week, the Dutch Society for the Preservation of Natural Heritage received a new observation tower during the mini-symposium ‘Experience Nature with innovative concrete’ in Peize. A multidisciplinary case study team comprised of UNStudio, ABT, BAM Utiliteitsbouw and Haitsma Beton were experimenting with the characteristics of ultra high performance concrete – a super dense mixture of fine grain structure which contains steel fibers – to manifest their findings in a functional, operative design. The observation tower will rest in the forested reserves of De Onlanden in Groningen and will extend 5 meters above the tree line to offer amazing views of the landscape.

II Bienal Mexicana de Arquitectura del Paisaje 2011

La Sociedad de Arquitectos Paisajistas de México, junto con la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, convocan a participar en la II Bienal Mexicana de Arquitectura del Paisaje para proyectos construidos tanto por arquitectos mexicanos como por extranjeros residentes en México, la cual se llevará a cabo entre el 31 de Octubre y 30 de Noviembre del 2011.

La idea de esta Bienal es difundir las obras más relevantes para permitir, mediante el análisis y crítica, una reflexión acerca de la Arquitectura de Paisaje Mexicana Contemporánea, pudiendo participar tanto arquitectos como estudiantes de licenciatura o posgrado.

La exposición se divide en tres categorías, dentro de las cuales cada participante podrá exhibir un máximo de tres obras realizadas entre el año 2005-2010: Obra Construída, Proyectos (no construidos) y Trabajos Teóricos o de Investigación.

El periodo de ingreso es a partir del 1 de Agosto hasta el 26 de Octubre de 2011.

La Facultad de Arquitectura, Urbanismo y Diseño y el Colegio de Arquitectos de la Provincia de Córdoba, organizan el 1er. Congresdo de Arquitectura del Paisaje - El Paisaje de la Ciudad- Realidad Contemporánea, Desafío Futuro. El mismo se llevará a cabo durante los días 8, 9 y 10 de septiembre de 2011 en las sedes de la FAUD.Con el propósito de reunir a las diferentes disciplinas que desarrollan prácticas proyectuales académicas y profesionales relacionadas a las problemáticas paisajísticas en los territorios urbanos, periurbanos y sus interfases; con el objetivo de abrir el debate que contemple reflexiones sobre el paisaje de la ciudad, su realidad contemporánea y el desafío futuro en su gestión y proyectación.

Un conjunto de destacados profesionales, nacionales y extranjeros, de la arquitectura expondrán distintas miradas y experiencias sobre el tema. Entre ellos los Arq. Felipe Uribe de Bedout (Colombia), Teodoro Férmamdez de Larrañaga (Chile), Juana Zunino Muratori (Chile), Estela Iglesias Viarenghi (Chile), Alba Di Marco (Argentina).

Las áreas temáticas para la presentación de ponencias y posters deberán considerar:. Patrimonio, memoria, identidad.. Gestión, planificación, y diseño (áreas centrales, periferias, intefaces, interticios, bordes y fronteras).. Sostenibilidad del terriorio urbano.. Educación e investigación.

Objetivos

Generar un espacio de discusión en torno a los valores paisajísticos de la ciudad contemporánea, constituyendo un foro de reflexión sobre una realidad urbana en permanente cambio y los futuros compromisos a asumir con relación a su gestión, planificación y diseño.

Conocer las diferentes propuestas y experiencias conceptuales y proyectuales desde la perspectiva integradora de las prácticas interdisciplinares.

FundamentosEl crecimiento vertiginoso de las ciudades y sus nuevas lógicas proyectuales y de gestión, producen impactos de diverso orden en el ambiente y en el paisaje de la ciudad. Densificación y renovación, de las áreas centrales y pericentrales; suburbanización y urbanización de las periferias y de las áreas rurales, van construyendo una nueva ciudad que requiere identificar y consolidar los valores consagrados de sus paisajes; caracterizados por una serie de imágenes que identifican una realidad geográfica y social – cultural, tanto en el orden local como regional .

La ciudad de la densificación, descentralización y dispersión requiere repensar su paisaje desde una dimensión integradora del hecho urbano – arquitectónico – paisajístico, donde a las consideraciones perceptivas se suman las de las ciencias de la naturaleza y las medioambientales.

La ciudad y su arquitectura en un proceso dinámico de renovación necesitan proteger, preservar, y fortalecer su paisaje natural y cultural, reconociéndolo como un recurso no renovable a incluir en los procesos de gestión y planificación de su territorio y en el diseño arquitectónico:

Considerando el valor patrimonial de las preexistencias naturales y culturales que la identifican.

Recuperando las vacancias urbanas, los intersticios y las interfases urbanas / rururbanas, los espacios residuales, los bordes naturales depredados u abandonados, los corredores ecológicos, etc. con acciones defensivas y propositivas.

Realizando una revisión crítica con nuevas aproximaciones para la recuperación del espacio público como elemento vertebrador de la organización física y social de la ciudad.

Reconstruyendo y / o consolidando una imagen significante y un ambiente sostenible en términos ecológicos, sociales y económicos.

Objetivo general.

Capacitar a los participantes en forma conceptual y operativa, en el manejo de los árboles insertos en el ámbito urbano, con el ánimo de conseguir la mayor cantidad de beneficios ambientales, sociológicos y económicos para la sociedad.

Objetivos específicos.

Entregar a los participantes los conocimientos en las disciplinas de dendrología, silvicultura y sanidad forestal, en el contexto del manejo del arbolado urbano.

Capacitar a los participantes en la ejecución de inventarios y obtención de variables de interés del arbolado, a través de procedimientos de mensura forestal y nuevas tecnologías de la información espacial.

Conocer la normativa nacional vigente que regula el establecimiento y manejo del arbolado urbano.

Capacitar a los participantes en el uso de herramientas para la valorización de las dimensiones económicas, ambientales y sociales del arbolado en el escenario urbano.

Entrenar a los participantes en el uso y aprovechamiento de la tecnología de los Sistemas de Información Geográfica (SIG) y Sistemas de Posicionamiento Global (GPS) para el manejo y la gestión de bases de datos espaciales del arbolado urbano.

Entregar a los participantes los conceptos generales aplicados al diseño del arbolado urbano, así como instruir en las tendencias actuales y futuras de dichos diseños.

Esta variabilidad/coincidencia denominativa puede llevar a confusiones o equivocaciones desde la selección de las especies en un proyecto paisajista, su propagación e incluso los cuidados, requerimientos, tamaños y mantenimiento en las áreas verdes.

Las denominaciones o nombres universales de las especies, conocidos como nombres científicos o

botánicos permiten acceder al conocimiento de las especies, sus cualidades, distribución mundial y paisajes/ecosistemas, donde viven; asimismo facilitar el intercambio de información a nivel técnico/profesional, regional y continentalmente.

En la primavera verano de 2007, Bilbao se convirtió en una exposición de jardines urbana, singular e interesante.

Otros concursos en el mundo han logrado notoriedad pero ninguno antes había apostado, como el de Bilbao, por convertir un espacio urbano en protagonista de su concurso.

Cuando ideamos y pusimos en marcha este proyecto, lo hacíamos pensando que era un atractivo más que podía ofrecer la villa de Bilbao. Nacimos evidentemente con vocación de futuro, convirtiendo este Concurso en bienal y teniendo como objetivo que llegara a ser un referente internacional. Y parece que no erramos mucho. Ahí están los datos: en el Primer Concurso BilbaoJardín 2007 se presentaron 132 proyectos; en la segunda edición que tuvo lugar en la primavera 2009 la cifra de proyectos recibidos fue de 138. Además se recibieron consultas de las más diversas partes del mundo, la aceptación de personalidades de la arquitectura y la cultura para diseñar su propio jardín fuera de concurso...El resultado final ha sido ya consolidado con el valor añadido de la gran aceptación con que la ciudadanía acoge y celebra este proyecto.

BilbaoJardín se articula entorno a las bases aquí expuestas y con un objetivo que concurre con el de sus anteriores ediciones: que los 20 proyectos que se seleccionen y se mantengan en exhibición nos ayuden a redescubrir, aún más si es posible, nuestra ciudad.

Taichung City Government has been actively pursing the planning work for Taichung Gateway City in response to globalization trends, anticipated growth of Taiwan-China trade, Central Taiwan development objectives as well as Taichung’s own vision to become a livable international metropolis. The goal is to create a visionary, innovative and international urban environment while at the same time establishing close links between Central Taiwan and the rest of the world.

Taichung Gateway City covers an approximately 254-hectare area that includes the former Taichung (Shuinan) Airport and its vicinities. According to Taichung’s municipal urban plan, at the center of Taichung Gateway City will be an expansive green space—Taichung Gateway Park—that meanders from the north to the south of the entire development area with approximately 68-hectare. Areas surrounding the park will be divided into four districts according to their features: Eco Residential District, Gateway District, Cultural Business District, and Innovation R&D District. In addition, Taichung Dome, Taichung Convention and Exhibition Center, and Taiwan Tower and Taichung City Cultural Center will all be integrated into Taichung Gateway Park. Therefore, the development of the park will become the most significant milestone for Taichung Gateway City.

Urbanite Project: Open City Competition

Back in 2007, we at Urbanite were trying to find a way to encourage innovation in the city, and we knew one of the best ways to do that was to bring together folks from different disciplines and viewpoints. So we launched the Urbanite Project. We matched up unlikely teams of two or three, putting an architect with a neurosurgeon, or a writer with an environmental lawyer, and asked them to collaborate on a project of their choosing. To us, the end result wasn’t the point—although several projects had physical manifestations, including the 2007 “Black + White = Green” project, which brought together a multi-racial crowd under the banner of care for the environment during the inaugural EcoFest. It was the collaboration between these people from very different worlds—who might never have met had we not introduced them—that we thought was vitally important.

This year, we’re taking the project a step further, focusing on these ideas coming to fruition.

Introducing Urbanite Project: Open City Competition, a project of Urbanite, the year-long Exhibition Development Seminar at Maryland Institute College of Art, the D center, theMaryland Transit Administration, and the Baltimore City Department of Transportation.

We’re inviting self-organized teams to compete for $10,000 in prize money and the chance to implement their solution to a pressing city issue: the quality-of-life issues brought about by the construction of the Red Line.

The Venue - Architectural History

The Kongresshaus and Concert Hall are today a unified and inseparable building, although this hasn't always been so throughout their history.
The Concert Hall, built in the Historicism style in 1895, was designed by the architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Gottlieb Helmer, who also built the City Theatre and Opera House in Zurich.
The Kongresshaus was built between 1937 and 1939 by Max Ernst Haefeli, Werner Moser, and Rudolf Steiger, whose influence on Zurich's architectural history includes the Neubühl complex, the university hospital, Allenmoos outdoor pool, and the high-rise "zur Palme".

Después del Primer Simposio, celebrado en Tucacas en junio del 2010, hicimos un balance que resultó muy positivo, todos los asistentes quedaron muy motivados y hemos recibido solicitudes de otros que quieren incorporarse a estos eventos. En esa oportunidad la asistencia fue de ciento seis participantes y estimamos que en el segundo simposio esa cantidad será superada.

El paisajismo ha venido cobrando mucha fuerza, desde una vivienda unifamiliar hasta los grandes complejos inmobiliarios quieren tener bellos jardines para su disfrute e imagen de calidad de diseños. La ciudad de Acarigua/ Araure tiene la gran suerte de tener un constructor-promotor, Organización Oliveira, que se preocupa por hacer proyectos residenciales de alta calidad con gran énfasis en el paisajismo, lo cual merece ser conocido a nivel nacional. Por eso hemos escogido Acarigua/ Araure/portuguesa de sede para este segundo simposio nacional de paisajismo.

Nos motiva a realizar este tipo de evento, el compartir experiencias y la actualización de conocimientos ya que cada día surgen empresas y profesionales independientes dedicados a acometer proyectos y diseños.

Los conferencistas son de alto nivel, tanto nacional como invitado de otros países. Estarán en el tapete temas de actualidad basados en sus experiencias profesionales. Esperamos que los asistentes capitalicen esos conocimientos y los apliquen en su actividad del día a día.

The international competition for the SLANT AWARDS is being held this year for the first time and on this occasion is aimed exclusively at students of Landscape Architecture and Landscape Design. The central idea behind this challenge is that the project in question is a "virtual project", one that has been created specifically for this competition. Now at its third edition, the Masters in Landscape Architecture was founded on a formative joint project between the Barcelona Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and the Milan ACMA Centre of Architecture, with the aim of offering a modular programme composed of single workshops and planning seminars (which can also be attended individually and by external students). Thanks to the up-to-date topics addressed and the international experience of the guest lecturers, this Masters has rapidly become an influential reference point in the European debate on landscape architecture. The Lazio branch of the Italian National Planning Institute (INU-Lazio), in collaboration with the INU branches of Veneto, Piedmont, Liguria, Emilia Romagna and Puglie, is organizing the first Biennial on Public Space, which will culminate in a final meeting organized in Rome during May 2011.

This initiative aims to establish a recurring encounter where ideas can be exchanged, transformations monitored, and scholarly research, and news on other territorial initiatives, can be publicly aired. Public space is a topic of pressing contemporary relevance, considering contemporary changes in the global economy, migration trends, advances in information technology, and transformations in contemporary patterns of urban growth.

We witness ever more frequently episodes challenging the very possibility of governing transformations of public space induced by new social and economic forces. Cities as we have known them over the course of history seem to be in the throes of death.

Remodelling of the most central and relevant public space in Puigcerdà, originally very much deteriorated, with an excessive amount of traffic that diminished the civic and integrating potential of the space.

Traffic is eliminated, concentrating road and service communication on one side, freeing up a large central space. Two large linear flowerbeds protect the pacified area from the bustle of traffic working as filters between the two. A number of elements of street furniture simultaneously emphasise the physical and visual limit of the squares themselves.

An expanding tourist demand and the introduction of low-cost carriers in air transport provide great opportunities for Zadar County, but it also has a tendency to the standardization of tourist products and landscapes. Exposición: “Arquitectura: paisaje y patrimonio en la Comunidad de Madrid”

La muestra reúne una colección de trabajos de alumnos y textos de profesores de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura y Geodesia de la Universidad de Alcalá que han sido realizados durante el curso 2009-1010 en las asignaturas “Arquitectura del Paisaje”, “Urbanismo II” y “Teoría e Historia de la Restauración”.

Con esta exposición se pretende, por una parte, apoyar los análisis en una realidad concreta y próxima, el territorio al que pertenecemos y en el que habitamos, por otra conocer y valorar ese territorio y así aprender a amarlo.

El Diploma de Perfeccionamiento Profesional (DPP) “Herramientas para el diseño en Arquitectura Paisajista” ofrece a los estudiantes la posibilidad de conocer y manejar las herramientas básicas utilizadas en la práctica de la Arquitectura Paisajista.

El DPP es un curso de cuarto nivel acreditable a los postgrados del sector de Acondicionamiento Ambiental de la FAU-UCV, así como en cualquier curso de postgrado de universidades nacionales y extranjeras, el cual no genera título académico; y se constituye de tres (3) Cursos de Ampliación de Conocimientos (CAC), cada uno de los cuales puede ser cursado individualmente.

Objetivo general: Impartir los conocimientos teóricos e instrumentales necesarios para el manejo de la vegetación y la aplicación de diversos recursos tecnológicos en desarrollo del proyecto de Arquitectura Paisajista a cualquier escala (regional, urbana y local).

Dirigido a: Arquitectos y a otros profesionales afines, éstos últimos con alguna experiencia demostrable en la práctica de la Arquitectura Paisajista, interesados en ampliar sus conocimientos en esa área de estudio.

The large green open spaces that surround the Seu Vella Cathedral and dominate the whole city are the most beautiful public areas in Lleida, and are what we chose as our reference point. The designs for the new Ricard Viñes Square must possess some of this beauty. The focus of our proposal is to build a large green open space for a sculpture dedicated to the musician Ricard Viñes. A space full of little squares 0 5 10 cross section and green areas at a point where the city throngs with traffic and pedestrians. The maze or labyrinth provides an ancient model. The cultural meaning and interpretation of the symbol of the labyrinth run deep. The origin of the “labyr” part of the word has to do with rocks and stone, while the “inth” comes from a Greek word meaning foundation site. Even though the precise etymology is unclear, there was a time when path mapping was used to notate dance choreography.

INTRODUCTION

The Olympic Games sees the biggest and most prestigious sporting event in the world being staged for the unprecedented third time in London next year, thus making London the first city in the world to host the modern summer games for a third time.

London is the largest urban zone in the European Union with a cosmopolitan population of over 7.7 million residence. The London Games is being eagerly anticipated by millions of sporting fans around the world. The Games, which officially kicks off on the 27th July 2012 will see the arrival of world’s top athletes and their team officials representing various participating nations, international dignitaries, the Games officials and not to mention millions of supporters and fans.

AIM OF THIS COMPETITION

The aim of this International competition is to design a temporary, freestanding information pavilion within the world famous Trafalgar Square in the Heart of London during the 2012 Games. The competition hopes to achieve the following:

_Encourage and reward design excellence at a small scale which integrates function, structure, details

and the spirit of the games.

_Research, respond to and highlight the unique aspects of designing an information pavilion that will be used by visitors during the games.

La Asociación Uruguaya De Arquitectura De Paisaje (AUDADP) co organiza junto a la International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) este evento que del 27 al 29 de octubre próximo convocará a profesores y estudiantes, profesionales e investigadores, dedicados o interesados en la temática del Paisaje desde las distintas disciplinas, en todas sus escalas y modalidades, tanto en lo referente a las realizaciones como en lo relacionado a lo conceptual y metodológico.

Consiste en dos días de ponencias y presentaciones en el Center for Mediterranean Architecture en Chania, de estudios de arquitectura emergentes de Grecia y el extranjero. Simple but conscious designs to highlight the Eastern District Waterfront as public-enjoyable urban green extension. It is designed to promote inclusive inter-action and exchange, also the fresh, harmonious and healthy image of the District. Sustainable, modular, easy maintenance, effectively low cost and barrier-free are fully addressed. This all-in-one design stands out with its ability to adapt any target location, both in size and function.

Old Post Office Plaza / Baird Sampson Neuert Architects.

The winning design of an international competition, Old Post Office Plaza serves as an urban catalyst for revitalization while forming an iconic event space for downtown St. Louis. Inspired by a large public sculpture, “the Torso of Icaro” by noted sculptor Igor Mitoraj and donated for installation in the project, the design creates a three dimensional armature of spaces and program that spiral upward and around the work to explore the deeper structure of ideas that the myth of Daedelus and Ikarus evokes. Not only was Daedalus the key protagonist of one of the great narratives of flight and fall, he was associated with early manifestations of public space and public art in ancient Greece, as an archetypal architect and sculptor.

Taller de Arboricultura: Aprender a observar para comprender. Terrasa.

ANDATERRASSA (Asociación naturalista de defensa de los arboles), organiza el Taller de arboricultura "Aprender a observar para comprender" en el Parc Sant Jordi de Terrassa, que será impartido por el Dr. Christophe Drenou los días 23 y 24 de este mes.

CHRISTOPHE DRENOU.-Ingeniero de técnicas hortícolas, titular de DEA de botánica tropical aplicada (Laboratorio Francis Halle) es Doctor en Ciencias (Universidad de Montpellier II).

Ingeniero de Investigación y desarrollo del Instituto para el Desarrollo Forestal (IDF). Especialista en arquitectura de los árboles, tema de su tesis doctoral.

Autor de los libros: el primero “La poda de los árboles ornamentales” traducido al castellano, y que es el libro de cabecera de todo podador experimentado.

Después publica “Les Racines” como coordinador que nos da a conocer en profundidad esa cara oculta de los árboles que son las raíces, y por ultimo publica “Face aux arbres” que es mas un libro de divulgación enfocado desde una perspectiva diferente y con notas de gran divulgador.

Los participantes dispondrán de fichas traducidas al castellano y asistirán con unos prismáticos como herramienta para el curso. El resto de herramientas del curso: lupas, bolsas de congelación para muestras, placas de petri, sacos para muestras, pinzas par muestras, azada, tijeras…. A cargo de la organización.

III Encuentro de Jardinería y Paisajismo.

La Fundación PONS y PONS Agropecuaria han iniciado una línea de formación-información en el ámbito de la jardinería y paisajismo que ha tenido gran acogida en los sectores implicados y ha despertado gran interés por el enfoque de los ponentes, la participación de los asistentes y las visitas técnicas realizadas.

Se plantea consolidar un foro de intercambio de ideas y escuchar opiniones de expertos sobre como orientar la Jardinería y Paisajismo, tanto en el diseño como en la gestión del patrimonio verde, hacia criterios de sostenibilidad.

En este Tercer Encuentro sobre Jardinería y Paisajismo se centrarán los debates sobre "El equilibrio suelo-planta en jardinería". Conscientes que la producción y selección de las plantas son el inicio de la Jardinería Sostenible, se pretende establecer las bases sobre cuáles son los medios de cultivo o sustratos sobre los que producir y qué especies se pueden introducir en un jardín para contribuir a una mejora ambiental del entorno sin comprometer recursos naturales no renovables.

La nueva legislación sobre sustratos de cultivo y la experiencia acumulada por el Ayuntamiento de Madrid en la introducción de nuevas especies de plantas serán los temas propuestos para la primera jornada de este encuentro, terminando con la mesa redonda con participación de los asistentes. En la segunda jornada serán las visitas técnicas, en esta ocasión se han seleccionado aspectos diversos que abarcan desde la producción de planta en contenedor a la fabricación de composts y sustratos de cultivo a partir de residuos vegetales de la limpieza de parques y poda de árboles.

PRESENTACION DEL PROGRAMA

Reflexionar acerca de la creación de áreas verdes se plantea como una necesidad indispensable en el contexto actual de crecimiento, expansión y transformación de nuestras ciudades sobre el territorio, respondiendo no sólo a criterios estéticos y técnicos de jardinería tradicional, sino considerando a las áreas verdes como valiosos sistemas que deberán aportar a mejorar la calidad de nuestro hábitat en un sentido ambiental y también social.

Las áreas verdes son contenedores de múltiples procesos ecológicos que aportan a la funcionalidad del ambiente y al mismo tiempo constituyen espacios sociales de encuentro, recreación, educación e integración ciudadana. En tal sentido resulta fundamental pensar y promover un manejo eficiente de los principales recursos que posibilitan la existencia de estos espacios: el agua, el suelo y el material vegetal.

OBJETIVOS

El Diplomado en Diseño y Gestión de Áreas Verdes Sustentables surge como iniciativa orientada a comprender y manejar las principales variables de sustentabilidad ambiental, económica y social que intervienen en la elaboración de proyectos de paisaje, poniendo énfasis en aplicaciones de diseño que consideren estrategias de manejo integrado, criterios de eficiencia energética y aspectos de sostenibilidad y factibilidad socioeconómica de las intervenciones sobre el territorio.

METODOLOGIA

El Programa académico se desarrolla en torno a Cursos Teóricos con determinados componentes prácticos tales como ejercicios y salidas a terreno. Estos módulos teóricos se complementan con el Taller Transversal, instancia de síntesis y aplicación de las materias y contenidos impartidos en el transcurso del Diplomado.

Se plantea un Programa de carácter presencial, compuesto por 10 Cursos Teóricos organizados en temáticas específicas y 1 Curso Transversal denominado Taller de Síntesis. En total el programa suma 114 horas pedagógicas, con actividades de clases principalmente en aula y algunas actividades en terreno.

REQUISITOS DE INGRESO

El Diplomado está orientado a Profesionales y Técnicos del ámbito Público y Privado, relacionados con el estudio, la gestión, el diseño, la construcción y mantención de las áreas verdes urbanas. Para postular al programa los interesados deben contar con Grado Académico, Título Profesional Universitario o Título Técnico – Profesional reconocido por el Ministerio de Educación de Chile.

El encargo del taller de titulación, requiere la búsqueda de una condición particular en un lugar, en función de su forma de organización, construcción u ocupación.
Esto lleva a la identificación de un germen que pueda dar paso a un estudio de interés común, que a la vez pueda concluir en un prototipo experimental que permita valorar la tesis.
El estudio nace por una inquietud con respecto a los artesanos y su cultura, el porque están emplazados aquí, lejos de todo, en medio de los cerros.
La elección de su entorno escapa un poco de la lógica con que podríamos abordar el tema. Pero la artesanía es una expresión cultural, que da cuenta de la forma con que se entiende el lugar y se saca partido a lo que se tiene a mano. Aparentemente, este caserío se emplazo en este lugar por ser un punto ubicado en la ruta que unía uno de los pueblos importantes del valle con otro atractor relevante en el territorio como es la costa.

Ganadores Concurso de fotografia MIRANDO EL ESPACIO VERDE//maracaibo

La organización PAISAJES POSIBLES da a conocer los resultados del concurso de fotografía MIRANDO EL ESPACIO VERDE / Maracaibo, en el que resultó ganadora la foto enviada bajo el código de participación 034, titulada ”Respiro”, y tomada por Oriana Chalbaud, quien se hace merecedora del premio consistente en BsF. 1000, media beca (equivalente a BsF. 500) para un taller de fotografía en la academia de fotografía STROBO ESTUDIO, y el derecho a ser jurado del próximo concurso a realizarse en el segundo semestre de 2011.

El jurado internacional conformado por Aixa Caldera (Atlanta), Andrea Griborio (Mexico DF), Lourdes Peñaranda (Maracaibo), Luis Perdomo (Maracaibo), y Martin Castillo Morales (Buenos Aires), emitió su veredicto y evaluación entre los días 25 de febrero y 03 de marzo. Para esto consideraron criterios tanto fotográficos como paisajísticos, tales como: composición, manejo de la luz, poética de la imagen, atributos físicos y estéticos del espacio verde, y rareza y singularidad, entre otros.
